Nayo Campbell – General Manager
Nayo Campbell is a senior journalism major and English minor at Howard University. This year Nayo will serve as the General Manager for Spotlight Network. Nayo joined Spotlight her freshman year as reporter and walked away with the “Most Improved Reporter” award by the end of the year. She is a firm believer that everyone has a story, and it is her job to shed light on it. Nayo has interned for major companies such as Radio One, BET, WHUT, Life and Style, and The Grio. She has covered events such as Howard’s Homecoming, fashion shows, listening parties, 2016 Democratic National Convention, and the 45th Presidential Inauguration. She also started her own YouTube Talk Show entitled “Meet The People.” Nayo’s ultimate goal is to have her own talk show, but she is certainly enjoying her role as an entertainment reporter. Her goal is for Spotlight to get the proper recognition since it is the ONLY student-run television network. This year, she plans to put out more news content while merging the entertainment side of the network. Be on the lookout for all things SPOTLIGHT.
Siobhan Stewart – Assistant General Manager
Siobhan is a junior journalism major from Frederick, Maryland. This year she is serving as the Assistant General Manager for Spotlight Network. Siobhan is a Gates Millennium Scholar and a member of the Howard University Association of Black Journalists.
Morgan Richard – Director of Operations
Morgan Richard is a junior studying Media Management and Business Administration from New Orleans, LA by way of Houston, TX. She serves as Director of Operations of Spotlight Network. She has interned at the D.C. Office of Cable Television, Gide LLC Public Relations, and Writers in the Schools. She currently works at iHeartMedia in Promotions. Morgan hopes to pursue a career in entertainment media upon graduation.
Alethia Tilford – Programming Director
Alethia Tilford is a junior Organizational Communications major, Spanish minor from Milwaukee, WI. She is currently the President of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity-Zeta Phi Chapter. She also serves on the Events Committee for Chango: Howard’s Spanish Cultural Society. In Spring 2017, she studied abroad to the Domincan Republic to analyze the importance of African influence in the Caribbean. After she graduates from Howard, she plans on going to law school with a concentration in criminal law. She also hopes to one day own a TV station. This year, the Programming Committee hopes to present Howard’s campus with two new series and at least one program on Bison television.
Eva Mayanja – Programming Director
Eva Mayanja is a junior TV & Film major from Boston, Massachusetts by way of Laurel, Maryland. Her biggest aspiration in life is to become a successful screenwriter and own her own network. She is a writer for HerCampus: Howard University Chapter. She recently wrapped up an internship as Production Assistant for a feature film starring Lil Mama. Shonda Rhimes is a big inspiration for Eva, and she hopes to be successful in screenwriting just like Rhimes.
Maya Reese – Executive Secretary
Maya Reese is a junior broadcast journalism major, Spanish and graphic design double minor from Chicago, IL. This year she serves as the Executive Secretary for Spotlight. She has also served on the executive boards for the Ladies of the Quad Social Club and SOC Student Council. She plans to one day move her television show “The Hype” onto mainstream television, where she would interview upcoming movers and shakers. This year, her main goal for Spotlight is for the organization to become more active and respected on campus, while also providing hard hitting news and entertainment.
Alisha Frierson – Production Manager
Alisha Frierson is a senior television and film production major psychology minor from Nashville, Tennessee. She serves as this year’s production manager for Spotlight Network. She has been a member of Spotlight since her freshman year, serving on the programming and production teams. Most recently, she became the producer of the Spotlight show Yard Talk. She currently interns at WHUT under the Outreach Community Coordinator, and she is also a part of the chapel production team which records the chapel services every Sunday and airs them on WHUT’s website whut.org. She is also a member of the National Council of Negro Women and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Her career goals are not specific, but she does plan to be a part of any projects that focus on the excellence of black people and the betterment of the black community. As for her Spotlight department, her goal is to work with other members in getting content to the student body through Spotlight’s shows and keeping members engaged in the work that we plan to put out.
Tyler Wright – Production Manager
Tyler Wright is a senior TV/Film major from West Palm Beach, FL. Tyler has worked with Spotlight since her freshman year at Howard. She has also worked in programming at Sirius XM. After graduation, Tyler wants to become a television editor.
Taylor Hopkins – Communications & Branding Director
Taylor Hopkins is a junior public relations major/graphic design minor from Orlando, Florida. She has the pleasure of serving as the Communications and Branding Department Coordinator for the 2017-2018 academic year. In pursuing her passion for public relations, she is currently serving as a Digital Media intern for the exclusive cable news company “News13.” Her career goals include landing a position as a PR practitioner for well known beauty brands. In addition to that, she also aspires to start her own branding consulting business to help others achieve maximum success. As the Communications and Branding Department Coordinator, her goal is for the department to expand Spotlights brand and to make us go viral!
Jared Waller – Communications & Branding Director
Jared Waller is a junior public relations major from Memphis, TN. At Howard, Jared has served in numerous organizations including Spotlight Network, where he serves as Communications & Branding Director. This summer Jared is working for Havas Health & You under the Havas PR agency. His ultimate goal is to run his own public relations firm to increase positive images of African Americans within the media.
Symone Riggins – Co-Business Manager
Symone Riggins is a sophomore business management major, from Long Island, NY. This year she will be serving as Co-Business Manager for Spotlight. Symone maintains above a 3.5 GPA and will also be serving as a Team Leader in The School of Business while being a part of the Spotlight Network. She plans to go into human resources and hopes to make a positive impact in her community. She’s excited to work with Dophiadie as Business Managers and with the rest of the E-Board.
Dophiadie Pierre – Co-Business Manager
Dophiadie Pierre is a sophomore, accounting major, from Boston, Massachusetts. For the 2017-2018 school year, she will be serving as the Business Manager for Spotlight. Dophiadie will also be a Team Leader for the School of Business and maintains above a 3.5 GPA. In the future, Dophiadie plans to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and work in the financial advising industry. One day, Dophiadie would love to have the opportunity to give back to her community to help those who may be less fortunate. Dophiadie is thrilled to make an impact on Spotlight along with Symone Riggins and the other E-Board members.
Journey Rucker – News Director
Journey Rucker is a journalism major, and she will be serving as Spotlight’s News Director for 2017-2018 school year. In high school she learned the basics of editing software, handling camera equipment, and producing a show. She was the first black anchor of my high schools’ television show “The Buzz,” which won numerous regional and national student broadcast awards. As a Howard freshman, she became a reporter for Spotlight Network. This year she plans to take the network to a new level, and promote our shows and reporters across campus. As News Director, she is excited to push our reporters into producing quality packages every week. For the upcoming school year, Spotlight Network will become a large source of news for Howard’s students. She is ready to see the new heights that we reach with Spotlight Network.
Sydney Williams – Web Editor
Sydney Williams is a junior journalism major from Atlanta, GA. She is Spotlight’s web editor for the 2017-2018 school year. Sydney is very active in the School of Communications; she is involved in HUSA Senate, WHBC 96.3, and the Howard University Association of Black Journalists. She is currently an intern at NBC’s Meet the Press and WHUR’s digital content department. As web editor, Sydney hopes to increase Spotlight’s online presence by creating more digital content in the form of written articles, photos, and videos. In the future, Sydney aspires to pursue a career in the digital media as an entertainment reporter.
